I think I would find the 50:25:25 rule really hard. I love carbs and I find that the hardest thing to cut down on.

I've just started eating healthier again, in hopes to loose a few lbs before Xmas. Eating smaller portions is the key and also not saying "I'm on a diet" that just sets me up to fail! Great tips here. Thanks for sharing. xx

As a Dietitian this is a very refreshing post!! Would agree with it all! Good luck and let us know how you get on!! xx #binkylinky

  4. Great tips here and really quite simple advice to follow. I spend some time with fitness and nutrition coaching and one rule of thumb I like to preach to my clients is: avoid foods from a bag or a box. In other words, focus more on whole, unprocessed food sources. You'll feel fuller long and avoid cravings for junk. Thanks for sharing on #BinkyLinky

Great tips! I think I need to try the 50/25/25 rule more when dishing out meals, mine tend to be carb heavy! I agree about not using the word diet, immediate negative connotations! x

Some nice tips here, we're terrible at eating healthy and as with everyone in the new year we will 'try' to do better. x

I'm with you on in this one. I need to start eating healthy as I've been eating Kimchi noodles a lot. SO thank you for the tips.

I'm so glad you wrote this, I have been wanting to eat more healthier for ages but don't know where to start. But the 50/25/25 rule is really handy, gonna start with that. Thanks! x

Great post, and I think you're right. Get rid of the word diet from the offset! That's usually where I fail!! Just a general change in healthier eating and way of life can do wonders xxx

I am very bad for eating healthy I have to say. But I am eating small portions. To be honest I am not a person who could eat big portions. The time I had food poisoning was also the time I started eating small portions.

  12. This seems to be on the mind of a lot of people lately. I’ve seen several blogs post something about eating healthier in the past two weeks. This is great because it’s motivational for me. I love substituting stuff in my favorites. For example, I love Spaghetti! It’s my favorite dish so switch the noodles for healthier ones that contain Omega and protein. I also watch for healthier sauces and the meat I choose 90% lean. I do this with many different foods that I like and I have become so accustomed to dark chocolate that contains mostly real cocoa that regular chocolate hasn’t tasted as good to me. Great Post! I think it’s that time of year where everyone wants to get a bit healthier for the holiday season. I can’t get away with dark chocolate, its all or nothing for me lol πŸ™‚

100% agree with everything you’ve said, especially the part about avoiding the word “diet.” It’s incredibly important to choose a way of living that you can commit to for the long haul. Diets are short-term, and once you go off of them, it’s so easy for the weight to creep back on. #AnythingGoes

Using a smaller plate is a great tip. There are so may conflicting dieting theories these days, carbs are bad, fats are bad etc but just eating everything in moderation is still the most sensible way to go. #Anythinggoes

I think if you tried to do everything the “experts” say, you would be ready to give up after a couple of hours!

  15. All good advice. It’s a little tricky for me at the moment as we’re living with my parents after moving for my husband’s job but hopefully we’ll have our own place in the not too distant future and I’ll have more control over my food intake again.

Great tips. I’m OK once it become a habit but remembering to make the right decisions in the beginning can be a challenge. Loving the new look- very clean and professional looking.

Thank you πŸ™‚ Yes, the beginning is always the worst. It’s easy to grab the wrong food just out of habit! Thanks, I’m glad you like it πŸ™‚

I think you have a really great plan here Debbie. The word diet is killer. Portion size definitely works. It’s not easy but cutting out the bad foods makes a big difference in itself – we are coming into such a tasty time of year tho it makes it tough! #anythinggoes x

    • Debbie, My Random Musings

Thank you πŸ™‚ It’s definitely a hard time to start, but at least if I get 6 good weeks I won’t feel as guilty at Christmas lol πŸ™‚ x

  18. This is great Debbie as I’m really struggling at the moment to get my will power back!! I keep telling myself that I will start to eat healthy every day and they I don’t!! I really need to do something about it!! Thanks for sharing this! πŸ™‚ xx

Starting out is the hardest part. Once you get going, it’s not so bad. Good luck getting back on track πŸ™‚

Great tips! I hate the word diet too.. healthy eating sounds better and more inspiring. Btw, your new theme/platform is looking good… Well done! #AnythingGoes

    • Debbie, My Random Musings

Thank you πŸ™‚ Healthy eating definitely sounds better, sounds more positive I think. Thanks, I’m glad you like it! πŸ™‚

Totally agree with you. There’s no point doing a specific kind of “diet” that is hard to stick to. Making simple changes is key. For me, cutting out any sugary drinks (water is best), avoiding too much bread/pastry, eating small portions and having 74% dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate works. Of course vegetables should always be on my plate too. πŸ™‚ #anythinggoes

Great advice and you are absolutely spot on! #1- it is mind set change…I have been on a health plan since May and I don’t say I am dieting. I always say I am trying to be healthy. I hate measuring my food out as well but I did at the beginning so that I knew what portion sizes I should be eating. One other tip I do use is that if I am a little naughty, then I make sure I exercise just a bit more to even it all out. Thank you for hosting #anythinggoes

    • Debbie, My Random Musings

I could never cope with measuring food – I don’t even measure when following a recipe! I like the idea of countering a naughty moment instead of beating yourself up over it πŸ™‚

Great advice. I also think that having a realistic view of how things will go helps. Most of the time people think they are going to change and never turn back. But that means when they do have a slip up, they just fall completely off the wagon because they feel they failed.

Thank you πŸ™‚ This is an excellent point. It’s definitely something I do. Once I feel I have “cheated” then I end up just stopping altogether!
