I guess the fact I could only think of 5 but could easily think of loads of reasons I love it speaks volumes. None of these things bother me enough to make me want to quit blogging, or even ruin my day, but they are still kind of irritating!
I went into this in some details in this post, so I won’t go into a lot of details here. I can live with a little pop-up in the corner of the screen, because it’s easy to ignore, but a giant pop-up in the middle of the screen makes me want to scream – especially if I’m reading on my phone, where it takes a lot of mucking around to close it.
2. Comment Verification
I will quite happily check a box to say I’m real (although if I was a robot, I would still check it if I wanted to publish the comment), but some of them go a bit far.
The ones where you have to do a simple sum should be fairly straight forward, but they rarely accept my first answer. And the ones with the letters never ever do.
I came across a new one recently – I had to complete a little jigsaw puzzle. I actually thought it was quite cute, because it was new, but if I had to do that regularly, I’m pretty sure it would get old quick.
3. Scheduling Tweets
I know this is a necessary evil, but I still hate it. Especially when I unwittingly manage to write the same thing twice so they don’t post. I have no idea how this happens to me – if someone said to me re-write your last tweet word for word, I know I would never be able to do it.
4. Misleading Tweets
You know that moment when you are scrolling through your Twitter feed and you spot a tweet that really grabs you? You excitedly click on the link, ready to discover the secret to getting a million followers, or glowing skin, or anything else that you can think of.
You reach the post and it’s not even remotely close to what the tweet said. This has to be my number one hate.
I get it, you need a catchy tweet to get people’s attention. But make it a catchy tweet that is relevant in some way to the post.
5. Auto DMs
I know I’m not alone in this. I have yet to speak to anyone that says “oh, I love auto DMs”! In fact I have yet to speak to anyone who says they don’t actively dislike them, some even say they auto unfollow anyone who auto DMs. Just out of interest, if anyone who uses these happens to read this, do they actually ever work?
What are your blogging pet hates? Let me know in the comments!
