While generally speaking, children’s books are a bit simpler than regular books, there are still lots of them that are good stories and there are lots that can still be enjoyable for adults. I think that’s especially true if you are new to reading and want to ease into it, or if you are in a reading slump and need something to get you back into it.

Below I am sharing five children’s books that are still good reads for adults.
The Harry Potter Series by J K Rowling

While the first book or two are a bit more juvenile, as the series progresses, the books start to feel more like YA than children’s books, but even in the first few books, the story is good enough to make you want to keep reading even as an adult.

The Witches by Roald Dahl

Honestly, anything by Roald Dahl is worth a read, but I think as an adult, The Witches is one that has enough going on to keep you engrossed in the story. Roald Dahl is a master of not writing as though his audience are stupid just because they are young and because of this, his books never feel dumbed down.

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C S Lewis

This book was a classic for most kids growing up and that’s because it’s so good. It’s got magic, friendship, bravery, loyalty, and a ton more besides. It doesn’t feel like a children’s story even though the main characters are children. I have only reread this one as an adult, but I’m sure the whole Chronicles of Narnia series would be good to read as an adult.

The Percy Jackson Series by Rick Riordon

Again, any of the series’ by Rick Riordan are going to be a good choice, but the Percy Jackson series is my favourite because I liked the characters and the story is fast paced and interesting. Also, I think it’s because I prefer Greek mythology to some of the others.

Charlotte’s Web by E B White

No list of great children’s books would be complete without Charlotte’s Web. The story of an unlikely friendship between a pig and a spider, the story is both entertaining and incredibly moving. I never thought I would be rooting for a spider, but Charlotte is the one exception.
